Final Blog Post

This entrepreneurship project has been a very interesting and enlightening learning process.  It allowed me to create an idea for a website and be able to build off and expand that idea.  Starting from a simple idea of a music social networking site, I was able to actually figure out a way to make this site exist.  By applying class content to my entrepreneurial idea I was able to gain a better understanding of the class material.  I was able to understand the material better because I was applying it to a real life data base concept.

My idea for a music social networking site started out as a very simple way for artists to get their music out and share with the world.  It was a very general idea, but as we learned about different concepts in class I was able to expand on my small idea and create something that can be very useful for the modern day musician.  My original idea was to create a site as a sole means of music sharing, but as we learned more material I started to head in the direction of musician to fan communication.  Artist will be able to create a band page in order to upload songs, videos, and new feeds.  The users will also be able to create a fan profile that will give them access to the bands page so they can listen to songs, watch videos and comment on their page.  If the fan wants to send a message to the band they can simply either write a written comment or they can upload a video.  My website will allow artist to create QR codes that will display messages that the fan can view.  My allowing the artists to upload songs, in MP3 format, the fan will be able to listen and share their music.  I will be using MP3 files instead of .wav files because they are smaller files.  This will allow the website to run faster and smoother because it is taking up less space.  Since this website will contain a lot of different artists I will be using multiple servers to ensure that the website is running smoothly.  I will be using different types of programs to ensure that the efficiency and quality is pristine.  When artists upload a picture it will go through PhotoShop to fix the colors to make it of high quality. I will have a security team monitoring the website to prevent threats from outside users.  My entrepreneurial idea has developed from a simple idea of a music website to a music social networking site. It will be very beneficial for unknown artists to get their name out and for mainstream artists to share new material.

I had a very great experience with this entrepreneurial idea because it allowed me to come up with an idea and be able to expand on it. It allowed me to take the concepts that we spoke about in class and be able to apply it to a real idea.  It takes time to create an idea. It all doesn't fall into place at the beginning.  It takes time and experience to develop an idea.

Famous Blog

A famous blog that I would like to talk about is a blog called RockCityClub.com.  What Rockcityclub.com serves to do is to help independent music artists and bands become more popular. It's main focus is on the millions of undiscovered bands out in the music.  This blog provides them with the tools to promote themselves and build a large fan base. RockCityclub.com will offer artists and bands on the website to be able to connect with famous producers in the music business.

The way that the website works is that artist and bands will be able to submit their music and videos from any location. Once the music and videos are submitted to the website it will be reviewed by engineers on the website and then marketed by website runners. They have articles posted about each member and information about up and coming tours.

This website is very similar to the idea that I had for my website.  What this website does well is that it markets artists well by category.  It provides sections of different members of the bands, for example will have a section for the drummer and compare them to other drummers.  This is a very innovated website that allows unknown bands to get their name out and start building a larger fan base.

Digital Color

When creating an online digital website, color is a very crucial aspect when trying to compete in a visually based industry.  Regardless of the type of website you are creating, the visual layout of your web page will allow you to stand out from your competitors.  By brightening up pictures and using colors that stand out will create a more professional feel to your website.  It will give off an impression that your website it more modern and up to date.

Dealing with color can be a issue when creating the web page.  There are two different color spectrum that the website designer must deal with.  The two spectrum are Red, Green, Blue (RGB) and Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK). RGB are consider the primary colors and CMYK are considered to be secondary colors.  When editing photos or videos you will play around with the RGB color spectrum.  This will take the original photo or video and skew the colors.

When dealing with my music social networking website I want the layout of the site to have clear and colorful photos.  If bands want to upload pictures from concerts, I want the pictures to be clear and colorful.  This may require the web designer to edit each photo on the site, but this will be essential to keep up with the vision of my website.  I want to give off a professional vibe to my website. If pictures are not of the highest quality, it will take away from the quality of the website.

Week 5--- Audio

After figuring out how I want my website to look and how I want it to run I realized that in order for users to keep returning to the site it by making it run smoothly.  The way to make it run smoothly will be by making sure that we are using the correct amount of information.  If the site have too much information on the server it will crash. It will run a lot slower and cause a lot of traffic. One way that I decided to eliminate unnecessary space is by making each music file a MP3.

On my website, when artists upload songs it will be in mp3 format.  Although there are other types of formats, such as wav files, mp3 files will take up less space.  The reason why I do not want to use wav files on my website is because it will simply take up too much space.  A wav files are uncompressed audio files.  It contains frequencies that can not be heard by the human ear.  Although wav files and mp3 files will sound exactly the same, wav files contains more information. By only using mp3 files rather than wav files it will allow the website to run more smoothly.  It will take up less space and allow the website to run faster.

The website will be able to run a lot faster because they will be uploading smaller files onto our server.  Having .wav files is unnecessary because it contains frequencies that humans are unable to hear. By having a smaller file people wil be able to upload files faster, listen to song faster and download faster. It will allow the website as a whole to be more efficient and it will cut down traffic.

Input and output

In this weeks lecture we talked about the benefits of different input and output devices for computers. New innovations such as RFID, Goog-411 and Google Wallet were all creations to improve the speed at which we do them and the efficiency of tasks.  RFID is radio frequency identification which contains many advantages over barcodes and seemingly appears to be the next innovation to be used to scan items quicker and more efficient. Goog-411 is Google's attempt to better their voice recognition service. Although the service was shut down, it still was an innovated idea that will soon prepare for the future of voice recognition.
Another beneficial device that was created is QR codes.  These small square boxes of code have the ability to store a written message and a verbal message.  These codes have a very quick response and can be placed on almost everything.  The QR code design consists of small black modules that when scanned shows a message that was encoded.
By having QR codes and voice recognition devices it will be a great way for artists to communicate to their fans on my website.  After a show the band members can create a voice message thanking their fans.  By turning it into a QR codes, fans on the website will be able to view the message.

In the world today a major problem that people are faced with is identity theft.  Users who fail to secure their personal information and financial information are at a high risk of having their identity stolen.  Millions of people every year are face with the problem of having their identity stolen. People spend years and a ton of money to try to fix the problem.  Identity theft has the ability to ruin your credit and ruin your name.  People need to be more careful about the decisions they make when they put their information out to the public. When making purchases online, make sure that the website is legitimate and secure.  The internet can be a terrifying place if you do not understand the risks of hackers gaining your information.
People need to realize that identity theft is a real problem in the world today.  If you are not careful, you can easily become a victim.  There are a few easy ways to avoid becoming a victim of identity.  One should refrain from revealing your social security number to an unknown source.  If someone gains access to your social security number they have the ability to steal your identity. Website Security

It tends to go unnoticed how much information can be accessed from personal social media websites.  On website such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter, once information is published on the web, it stays there forever. It can be access by anyone that tries to look for it.  Kids tend to not realize that the things that they put on the internet can be accessed by anyone.  Having a disturbing picture or comment on your personal social website can have a very negative affect on you in the future.

When employers are hiring new people to work at their firm they often do background checks on the people applying for the job.  Many people tend to not receive the job due to something disturbing on the internet. If its a picture or a comment, people need to be more conscious of what they are putting out there.

People need to be more aware of the things that they are putting on the internet because once it is uploaded it can be access by anyone. Certain websites that protect people from having unwanted information released to the public are great, but not a lot of people know about them. I think that these websites should be publicized more because this is a very big issue that can happen to anyone. On my website their will be strict security regulations.  It will monitor what is being put up and make sure that there is no unwanted or absurd content on display.
