Week 5--- Audio

After figuring out how I want my website to look and how I want it to run I realized that in order for users to keep returning to the site it by making it run smoothly.  The way to make it run smoothly will be by making sure that we are using the correct amount of information.  If the site have too much information on the server it will crash. It will run a lot slower and cause a lot of traffic. One way that I decided to eliminate unnecessary space is by making each music file a MP3.

On my website, when artists upload songs it will be in mp3 format.  Although there are other types of formats, such as wav files, mp3 files will take up less space.  The reason why I do not want to use wav files on my website is because it will simply take up too much space.  A wav files are uncompressed audio files.  It contains frequencies that can not be heard by the human ear.  Although wav files and mp3 files will sound exactly the same, wav files contains more information. By only using mp3 files rather than wav files it will allow the website to run more smoothly.  It will take up less space and allow the website to run faster.

The website will be able to run a lot faster because they will be uploading smaller files onto our server.  Having .wav files is unnecessary because it contains frequencies that humans are unable to hear. By having a smaller file people wil be able to upload files faster, listen to song faster and download faster. It will allow the website as a whole to be more efficient and it will cut down traffic.

  1. This is definitely an important aspect of your website considering it is a social media for music. The wrong audio file would be the most costly mistake for that type of website. I agree an MP3 audi file would be the most logical and cost efficient choice, and that the idea for a social media website just for music that is more up to date than myspace would be a good idea.
