Identity Theft

In the world today a major problem that people are faced with is identity theft.  Users who fail to secure their personal information and financial information are at a high risk of having their identity stolen.  Millions of people every year are face with the problem of having their identity stolen. People spend years and a ton of money to try to fix the problem.  Identity theft has the ability to ruin your credit and ruin your name.  People need to be more careful about the decisions they make when they put their information out to the public. When making purchases online, make sure that the website is legitimate and secure.  The internet can be a terrifying place if you do not understand the risks of hackers gaining your information.
People need to realize that identity theft is a real problem in the world today.  If you are not careful, you can easily become a victim.  There are a few easy ways to avoid becoming a victim of identity.  One should refrain from revealing your social security number to an unknown source.  If someone gains access to your social security number they have the ability to steal your identity. You should not provide your bank account number or credit card information unless you know who you are giving it to.  Everyone should monitor your credit. Make sure that the purchases you are making are made by you and not someone else.  By understanding that risks of identity theft you will be able to make better decisions and lower your chances of having your identity stolen.

Website Security

It tends to go unnoticed how much information can be accessed from personal social media websites.  On website such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter, once information is published on the web, it stays there forever. It can be access by anyone that tries to look for it.  Kids tend to not realize that the things that they put on the internet can be accessed by anyone.  Having a disturbing picture or comment on your personal social website can have a very negative affect on you in the future.

When employers are hiring new people to work at their firm they often do background checks on the people applying for the job.  Many people tend to not receive the job due to something disturbing on the internet. If its a picture or a comment, people need to be more conscious of what they are putting out there.

People need to be more aware of the things that they are putting on the internet because once it is uploaded it can be access by anyone. Certain websites that protect people from having unwanted information released to the public are great, but not a lot of people know about them. I think that these websites should be publicized more because this is a very big issue that can happen to anyone. On my website their will be strict security regulations.  It will monitor what is being put up and make sure that there is no unwanted or absurd content on display.

My Entrepreneurial Idea

Over the past decade social networking websites such as Facebook, Linkedln and Myspace have not only changed the way that individuals communicate with one and another, but has also allowed musicians to share music and live videos with their fans.  In June 2006, the website Myspace became the most popular social networking website in the United States, but then dwindled down once Facebook became popular a couple of years later. The two websites are very similar is its fashion, but differ in the way that Myspace's main focus was on music.  As Facebook kept gaining popularity, Myspace became less user friendly.  Due to the decline of users on Myspace, musicians struggled to promote their music to potentially new fans.

My idea is to create a new social networking website that has a sole focus on music.  It will allow bands to create profiles in order to promote their music and to communicate with other bands of similar genres.  This website will make it easier for unsigned bands to promote their music and to find shows to play on.  This website will not only be available to musicians, but also to management companies and record labels.

This idea came to me in class when we were talking about how Myspace is becoming a dead website.  A couple of years ago I used Myspace for the sole purpose of finding new music.  However, once Facebook came along I noticed that less people were using Myspace.  Bands than started using their Myspace accounts less because there weren't many users.  My new social networking website will be a mix between the music section of Myspace and the business part of Linkedln.
